A Lovely Picture Book for 2026

Come With Me written by Holly M McGhee and illustrated by Pascal Le Maître was published in 2017, but this book’s message rings true today. Sometimes all of us feel overwhelmed by large things and wonder how we can possibly help. It is easy to feel discouraged and too insignificant to make a difference. Come With Me shows how even a young child can feel he or she is contributing and making this world a better place with something as small as a smile.

The first page begins with “All over the world, the news told and retold of anger and hatred-People against people.” The little girl is frightened by what she sees and hears. I am sure some of our little people feel this in 2026. This lovely picture book shows how she overcomes her fears and reaches out to others in a way that is safe for her but that makes a difference.

“Be brave, gentle, strong- and kind…to one another and all living things.” This message gives me hope. I truly believe together each of us can make small choices which can add up to powerful changes. What each and everyone of us does matters.
